You can be sure you will get your fill of poultry during your visit to Frankenmuth as each meal comes with loads of chicken. At the Bavarian Inn Restaurant, chickens are never frozen and arrive fresh to Bavarian Inn. They are then steamed for up to an hour. The stock created from this process is then used as the key ingredient for their soup, gravy, and sauerkraut. The chickens are cooled rapidly in a quick chill freezer, and expertly cut using a bandsaw. They are then covered in a homemade egg wash, and flour and cracker meal. The cooked chicken only spends three minutes in the fryer, making it nice and crispy, but still tender on the inside! If you are dining family style, each of the following items (including chicken) are served all you can eat with giant platters of food that can be shared with your entire table.
Each restaurant offers a wide range of appetizers. Of course homemade bread comes with the meal (including stollen bread), along with creamy butter. You can also choose between cranberry relish, coleslaw, pasta salad, fresh salad, or chicken noodle soup! Don't forget about the featured vegetables, such as the locally grown blue hubbard squash.
Both Zehnders and the Bavarian Inn bring out several kinds of bread with spreads. The friendly servers in both restaurants will then bring out cole slaw, pasta salad and a cranberry citrus salad. Of course your meal includes a tasty cup of chicken noodle soup.
Now for the main course sides. Are you getting full yet Both restaurants provide a lavish spread of mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, buttered egg noodles and the vegetable of the day with the tasty chicken.
Simply replace the amount of other liquid in your recipe with chicken broth. For example, if the recipe calls for one bouillon cube and one cup of water, replace the bouillon cube and water with one cup of chicken broth. By the way, here are some chicken broth substitutes for when you run out.
My secret weapon for making this chicken soup next level is Zehnders chicken seasoning. Zehnders is a great, legendary, restaurant in Frankenmuth, Michigan that I grew up going to. This seasoning is so good on any chicken dish but a little goes a long way.
Place chicken in large soup pot and cover with cold water. Add in the salt and the leafy center of the celery bunch. Bring to a boil over high heat and skim off any froth. Lower to medium heat and let boil for 4 hours.
