next, give your strainer a shake to get all the bits of the coconut in the strainer. then place the strainer on the side that is being used to be the bottom of your bowl. you want to have the strainer over the bowl to catch all the juice. you don't want a bunch of bits and pieces of the coconut falling into the bowl and letting all the juice out. leave the strainer on while you're waiting for the coconut to finish draining, but don't let it get too big or your juice will overflow. once you've strained all of the juice, place the strainer in the bowl. now, fill your coconut with a screwdriver. you're going to have a lot of juice to go through, so don't fill it up too high. i typically fill mine to about 3/4 of the coconut. a little milk is still better than none, but a lot of milk is not better than none. pop your coconut into the oven and bake for 30 minutes. it will probably take more or less time depending on your oven. if you're using a convection oven, you might not have to bake it as long. once the coconut has baked, you'll be able to tell if it's done by looking at the stem. if the coconut has a lot of dried milk and the stem is still black and plastic looking, you need to bake it longer. if the stem has turned brown and the milk has turned white, you're done. if your coconut is done, take it out of the oven and check the stem. you want to make sure it's totally dry. if it's not, bake it longer. if you are in doubt, check your coconut for dryness by sticking a fork in the middle. the coconut should spring back after you pull it out of the oven. if it does, it's done. if it doesn't, you need to do it a little longer. the last thing you need to do is let the coconut cool for a few minutes before you try to open it. if you try to open it too soon it will explode. now, you can take your coconut and smash it open. you want to be sure to not hit any of the sides of the coconut too hard. if you hit the sides it can cause the sides to break off and the coconut can go flying. also, don't hit the coconut top or bottom too hard, as you can dent the coconut and it may not hold together. once you've cracked open your coconut, you're going to have to strain the milk out of it. try to only strain out the amount that you need. if you strain out too much, the coconut will be messy and you'll have to clean it off. i find that a strainer in the microwave is ideal for this process. it's faster than straining it out with your hands. just place your strainer in the microwave, and heat for 1 minute at a time until you have the amount of milk that you need. 3d9ccd7d82
